Proof that the Doom III engine can do bright surfaces

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

There’s an impressive video over at teamxbox.com showing off ‘Prey’, the new FPS game which uses the Doom III engine, it looks very nice.

Pity ID didn’t turn the brightness up on their Doom III dev-boxes, eh?

Battlefield 2: 10 months on

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Since Battlefield 2 (BF2) dropped back in June last year, you could say I’ve put in a good amount of play into it. Certainly enough for me to raise a point or two without fear of being called a noob. Then again, I’m not sure that’s a fear we ever escape.

When BF2 was released, it got bloody good scores. At the time, I would have completely agreed with those 90-95% marks. The game really brought home the holy trinity of teamwork, killing and shouting that is usually only enjoyed by PC gamers religiously - that is to say at Easter and Christmas when everyone is off work and can get together for a LAN (party).

Oh dear Domonik

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

Some of you will remember Domonik Diamond, popularised by the Channel 4 series Gamesmaster. Seems the poor fellow has lost his way, and in his efforts to get back to the straight and narrow, turned down the opportunity to be crucified. God knows why. Read the article in the Guardian here.

Brief excert:

A tabloid columnist making a documentary about his quest to rediscover his faith yesterday backed out of being crucified in a Good Friday ritual in the Philippines after seeing 11 others nailed to crosses.

Dominik Diamond, 36, a life-long Catholic from Arbroath who has said he was making the film after recent events made him start to doubt his faith, declined to discuss the incident afterwards. After praying, he left the scene.

Man treads thin ice to bring necessary rant

Tuesday, April 11th, 2006

Rants concerning women in gaming (not to be confused with girls in gaming) are numerous when one looks. However ones that actually use the words we all use in our heads are few. This man braves a new teritory, and if he survives with his balls intact, man even father children. If I said some of this stuff in front of my female friends that play games, I wouldn’t keep my balls very long. There are several following updates from the initial page, emphasising his case, be sure to read them. The following is an sample:

But funny thing - most of them actually do attract sponsors. Here is why;

They have vaginas. They have asses. They have tits. They have mouths.

Overhype symptoms remain prognosis for “Revolution”

Tuesday, April 11th, 2006

PointlessWasteOfTime has an article that is fully worth reading, “Fanboy Intervention”, regarding the atrocious state of the hype surrounding the “forthcomming” Nintendo console. Many of its points can of course be applied to any and every game with hype surrounding it, however they ring truer in this case.

A quote from the article:

‘”One photo shows a player holding the Revolution controller behind his head with the corresponding screen shot displaying the (sword) hilt being held up to the character’s face.”

That’s right. You’ll be required to swordfight with this thing, which means you’ll have to sit on your sofa, swinging your arm around like you’re having a seizure.’

I cannot wait. It will be like dancemats, for your arms and such. Catch the whole thing, here.
